Your privacy matters. This policy explains what data Rift collects, why we collect it, and how you can control it.

1. Who We Are

2. Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to run Rift safely. Every item below exists for a specific reason - and none of it is ever sold or given away.

First & last name - account identity, and to support age / parental verification and abuse investigations.
Date of birth - to confirm you meet our minimum age and to apply the right protections for younger users.
Email address - to secure your account, send service and security notices, and let you recover access.
IP address - to keep the platform safe: detecting fraud, blocking ban evasion, and stopping abuse.
Device type & device name - to show your signed-in sessions, flag unfamiliar logins, and let you sign out devices you don't recognize.
Password - stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text.
Profile & content - avatar, display name, bio, and the messages you send, stored so we can deliver the service.
Usage data - server membership, channel activity, and feature usage, used to improve Rift.

Each piece of data has its own job - mostly keeping the platform working and keeping people safe (for example, banning users who break the rules). No personal information is sold or handed to advertisers.

3. How We Use Your Information

To operate and deliver the Rift service
To secure your account and prevent unauthorized access
To send service emails (account confirmation, security alerts)
To process premium subscription payments via Ko-fi
To improve Rift and troubleshoot issues
To enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not serve advertising.

4. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely on our servers and trusted cloud infrastructure. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

Data may be stored on servers located in multiple regions for performance and reliability.

5. Data Sharing

We use trusted third-party services to operate Rift. These providers only receive the data necessary to perform their function:

Infrastructure providers - hosting, content delivery, and security services
Ko-fi - payment processing for premium subscriptions
GIF provider - GIF search functionality within the app

We may disclose your data if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Rift and its users.

6. Children's Privacy

Rift is not intended for children under 14. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 14. If you believe a user is under 14, please report it at gav2011@modeminc.com and we will promptly investigate and delete the account.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data (via account settings)
Delete your account and associated data
Export your data (contact us to request)

8. Cookies & Browser Storage

Rift stores certain preferences and session information locally in your browser to keep you logged in and remember your settings.

9. Data Retention

Account data is retained as long as your account is active. Messages in channels you're part of are retained until you or a server admin deletes them, or until the server is deleted. When you delete your account, your personal information is removed within 30 days.

10. Security

We use industry-standard security practices to protect your account and data. Despite our best efforts, no system is perfectly secure. Please use a strong, unique password and keep it private.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via a platform notification. Continued use of Rift after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
