By using Rift, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, you may not use Rift.
Rift is a communication platform operated by ModemINC that lets people create communities, chat, share media, and connect in real time. These Terms govern your access to and use of the Rift platform, including our website at modeminc.com/rift, our API, and all related services.
You must be at least 14 years of age to create an account or use Rift. By registering, you confirm that you meet this minimum age requirement. If we discover that a user is under 14, we will terminate their account immediately.
Users under 18 should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
If a user between 14 and 17 uses Rift, we strongly recommend a parent or guardian set up a Parent Account. A Parent Account lets you supervise the experience and control what your child can access - for example, which servers they may join and which features are available to them.
No content moderation is perfect. Despite our best efforts, automated and human moderation cannot catch everything, and users may encounter content that is upsetting or inappropriate. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising minors in their care. If you are not comfortable with that responsibility, please do not allow a minor to use Rift.
By signing up, you acknowledge and agree that: you use Rift at your own risk; ModemINC is not responsible or liable for content posted by other users or for interactions between users; and that while we will always try to help and act on reports, we cannot guarantee any particular outcome.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password with anyone. You are fully responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, contact us immediately at Gav2011@modeminc.com.
You agree not to use Rift to:
Servers that violate these rules will be removed. Repeat offenders will be permanently banned.
By default, all servers on Rift are private and invite-only. To make your server publicly listed, you must submit it for review. Every public server on Rift is human reviewed by our team before it is listed to ensure it meets our community standards.
We reserve the right to reject or remove any server from the public directory for any reason.
You retain ownership of content you post on Rift. By posting content, you grant ModemINC a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and distribute that content as needed to operate the service.
You are solely responsible for the content you post. Do not post content you do not have the right to share.
Rift offers paid subscription tiers - Quantum and Core- via Ko-fi. Subscriptions are billed monthly. You may cancel at any time. No refunds are issued for partial billing periods.
We reserve the right to change subscription pricing or features with 30 days notice. And we will notify you of any changes.
We aim to keep Rift available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uptime. We are not liable for outages, data loss, or disruptions. Rift officially launches June 26, 2026, and features may change at any time.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if we believe you have violated these Terms. You may also delete your account at any time from your account settings.
Rift is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uptime, or security. We do not warrant that Rift will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will be free from loss, corruption, attack, viruses, interference, hacking, or other security intrusion. You use Rift at your own risk.
We use reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your data (see our Privacy Policy). However, no method of transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. To the maximum extent permitted by law, ModemINC is not liable for any unauthorized access to, disclosure of, alteration of, or loss of your data, including any data breach or security incident, whether caused by third parties, infrastructure providers, or otherwise. You are responsible for using a strong, unique password and for not sharing content or personal information you are not comfortable being exposed in the event of a breach.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ModemINC, its owners, and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) Rift - including any data breach, security incident, outage, or loss of content - even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the claim, or (b) 50 USD.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ModemINC and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of Rift, your content, or your violation of these Terms or any law or the rights of a third party.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which ModemINC operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will first be attempted to be resolved informally by contacting us. If it cannot be resolved informally, you agree that disputes will be handled on an individual basis and you waive any right to participate in a class action, to the extent permitted by law.
We may update these Terms periodically. Significant changes will be communicated via a platform announcement. Continued use of Rift after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
